Pied à Terre
This house began life as a stable and hayloft. It then provided a living room, kitchen and bathroom on the ground floor with a bedroom above. Our design inverted this layout to form a bedroom off a ground floor entrance hall, with a large living room and kitchen above. This maximises privacy, outlook and daylight where they are wanted, and gives a spaciousness that belies the 50m2 floor area.
The only extravagance is a large motorised roof light that slides away completely when open. This makes the living room feel like an enclosed terrace, and the occupants hyper alert to sudden and unexpected rain showers.
