Albion Road

Our client for this project has gradually acquired all of the flats into which a beautiful 19th century house had been divided. The reassembled building offers opportunities for new living patterns where a group of occupiers can share amenities and facilities. We were initially asked to design a garden pavilion that would form a space for music, art, meetings and conversation, for which pandemic year planning permission and listed building consent were granted. Since then our client’s thinking has evolved, and she considers that the co-living model would be strengthened with a new stand alone house.

The design is a triangular plan, responding to the geometries of a rear street and the back elevation of the listed historic house. A ground floor living, dining, kitchen space opens onto the shared garden, and two bedrooms and a bathroom are above. The architectural form is low and discrete, and is clad in sustainable timber - like raised garden walls. All rooms have interesting views, both urban vignettes and into the garden. Planning is underway.
